Burnout and low compensation remain persistent challenges for music therapists. Creating a more sustainable music therapy profession will require more than advocacy and licensure—it means demonstrating measurable value, improving career opportunities, and showing healthcare organizations how music therapy contributes to outcomes that matter.
Music therapy advocacy should be about more than defending the MT-BC credential. By focusing on clinical outcomes, collaboration, and the safe and effective use of music in healthcare, music therapists can demonstrate the profession’s value—and build a stronger case for recognition, reimbursement, and growth.
