About the Founder

Stephen Choate, MHA, MT-BC
Stephen Choate is a board-certified music therapist and healthcare operator specializing in mental health, substance-use recovery, and clinical program development. His clinical approach integrates cognitive-behavioral principles, philosophical reflection, and evidence-based music interventions to help individuals develop insight, cultivate meaning, and make meaningful progress in recovery.
Stephen’s experience spans direct clinical practice, healthcare operations, organizational leadership, and program development across behavioral health, recovery, hospice, and community-based settings. He is the founder of Telos Music Therapy, where his work encompasses clinical services, professional education and training, and the development of thoughtful, sustainable programs and partnerships.
Stephen also serves as Lead Editor of Clinical Praxis, Telos Music Therapy’s professional publication exploring clinical practice, professional development, healthcare, and the evolving field of music therapy.
Across his work, Stephen is particularly interested in the intersection of excellent clinical practice and effective organizational design—and how both can contribute to better care, stronger programs, and more meaningful, sustainable work for the people who provide it.
